What happens before a pet’s surgery?

Before surgery, a blood screen is conducted to determine how safe surgery will be for your pet. This blood test also assures the vet that your pet will be able to recover after the surgery. The blood screen reveals organ function such as kidney and liver blood counts and clotting in your pet. Kidney and liver function are important during surgery as they metabolize sedatives and anesthesia. During surgery, your pet will be given intravenous fluids to keep your pet companions hydrated and to maintain tissue fluid.
